It’s done. I can’t believe it! Thank you so much to everyone who made this possible; my teachers, peers, family, and friends. My senior thesis “A New Way Home” will premiere at the MICA Animation Festival on April 28th.

03/30 Here's an example of color correcting in Premiere. I also needed to add her expressions! I decided to not use replacement facial features and instead use 2D animation for her face- I wanted her expressiveness to be simple and juvenile, using dot eyes and simple lines for her brow and mouth. I also only gave her those features when she's emoting. We're so close to the end here!

03/14 I'm nearly done shooting! I have two shots left. I'm editing visuals and sound in After Effects and Premiere. I've been switching between the two programs because I prefer AE for most visual edits, but Premiere is ideal for sound editing.

02/06  LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION I have been shooting my film for a few weeks, and it's going pretty well! Lighting has been really important to me in this project, and I hope it shows in the shots that I've completed.  I had some trouble figuring out a good walk cycle for the deer puppet because of its thin legs, but I think I've finally got it. Just put one foot in front of the other.

11/30/17 STOP MOTION SET- Finished! As of November 2017 I have finished building my stop motion set! It took three months, several tubs of modpodge, many spools of wire and hot glue sticks, dozens of sheets of tissue paper, and weeks of green fingertips.

11/20/17 PUPPETS!   My puppets are nearly done! I need to sew the sleeves of the shirt for the kid, and make the deer's neck and legs a bit thinner, as well as paint their eyes and feet. The deer's body is felted, with a painted polymer clay head, and epoxy for the feet, with little nuts in them so they can be bolted to the set during production. The kid puppet's body over the armature is made of felt and pre-wrap, and the hair is just wool glued to the clay of their head.

11/13/17 Experimented with some lighting today! I am excited about how the foliage is capturing the light- like a real plant would! I've also been building upon the assets of my set, filling the gaps in the roots with moss, fungi, and grass. This has been a fun, experimental week. The grass, like the pine needles, is tissue paper, the moss is this fake foliage made for model train sets, and the mushrooms are extra Sculpey I had left over. Things are happening!

11/3/17 One tree down! Whew, I need to speed that process up. I've already started the next one, which will be a lot less detailed to save on time. I also started my puppets this week! They will be made of wood and wire armatures, with foam making up the bulk of the body. This one will eventually be my deer character. I also painted the main background this week. Progress, progress, progress, let's keep moving!

10/10/17 Made some progress on a hero asset today. I decided to use easily accessible, inexpensive materials to build most of this set, so I'm using a sort of paper-mache technique with tissue paper and mod podge for the bark and the foliage of the pine trees. I also like the texture and the way light will filter through the thin paper. I also have the base of my set done, which is wood and felt.

09/15/17 Just starting to block out set pieces today with scrap cardboard. I'm doing this so I can map out the placement of each object in space, as well as make sure everything is a nice scale for the camera.

09/05/17 This page will be dedicated to the making of my senior thesis film! I will update it periodically with images and quick blog posts about my progress in concepts, building, and animating my stop motion sets, puppets, and film! This is a concept, depicting the setting and mood I hope to create this year! Follow along from now until May of 2018 for this adventure with me!
